The main benefit will be a more youthful appearance. But maximum (once read up on this) they can give is 10 years younger. But one should be aware of two things: After the surgery heals, you will of course continue aging at the normal rate, and in 10 years (if you got the maximum effect), you will be right where you started. Also, many people have other problems in their life that they imagine would all go away if they only looked younger. If these people get a facelift based on solving all their problems, those other problems will still be there and the discovery that they are still there can trigger depression. Be sure that ALL you expect from a facelift is a younger facial appearance. You will not BE younger, and any other problems will still be there waiting to be dealt with.

As to focus of cosmetic surgery, it is a psychological as well as physical change that would be of benefit in overcoming a traumatized event or deformity from birth. The mental aspect alone in relief gained after frequent stares and insensitive words may be placed in the forgotten past after cosmetic surgery. The major or minor surgery to remove or change abnormalities does give clear meaning to showing a new person to the world. The renewed outlook adds a better view of the future when surgery removes protective barriers and the personality takes a dramatic new look at the potentiality of a promising future. Not all cosmetic surgery is a boost to the ego. It is sometimes necessary to live in harmony in the world.
