Can an insurance company take possession of my car and title before they pay me for it?

0 votes
My insurance company wants me to sign over the title of my car before they pay me. It is a total loss. I do not feel comfortable signing over the title to my car before i receive my check. This claim has taken 3 months to resolve and i only have a verbal on what they are to pay me. They insist they take possession of the vehicle and title before they issue a check.

Seems the written documentation requesting the title and procedure of obtaining the car to issue the check from them to you is what you have not done. Ask for this letter on phone and wait for the letter. It is not unusual or shady for the insurance company to conduct business in a "we do this and then you get that" manner. Ask the company for the letter. They should be willing to do that.
