The Good
Beets are: low in calories and fat; a good source of fiber, vitamin C, magnesium and potassium; and are high in folate and manganese.

The Bad
Beets are high in sugars and are not anti-inflammatory (they're slightly flammatory).

A 1/2 c. serving of beets has about 38 calories, and 32 of those are from carbohydrates. The total carbs are 8.5 g, and 7 g of those are sugars. That same serving size gives you 17% of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of folate and 14% of the RDA of manganese.
