The Caste system was imposed by Aryans when they moved to Northwest India to organize the new society created by their arrival. They initially introduced 4 varnas (i.e. castes) which was later expanded to include the 5th category. The initial four varnas were Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra and the last one introduced was the untouchables.
