Medicaid will cover only medically necessary care, and generally does not cover cosmetic care.  As long as the weight loss surgery is considered medically necessary and it meets the Medicaid plan's criteria, then it could be covered.  In most Medicaid plans, the surgery has to be approved by the plan before it occurs.  The sugeon's office will work with the plan to get it approved; the office staff may already be familiar with the Medicaid plan's requirements and criteria.
