Does Google require you to register your business in order to stay in their search results?

I keep getting phone calls from so called google experts that tell me it is urgent that I register my business with google in order to stay listed by them.  They say I will no longer be there if I don't.  They also say it takes about 4 hours to do.  I can't find any requirement in my google account, tools or analytics that requires that.  They can do it for me for a 1 time fee of $249.00.  Sounds bogus to me.
