what is the difference between continental and oceanic crust?

The continental crust is the layer of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks which form the continents. Oceanic crust is primarily composed of rocks like mafic or sima. The main difference is that the continental crust is not as dense as the oceanic crust, so it is more buoyant, or capable of floating.
