In To Kill a Mockingbird, it's hinted that Arthur Radley is the victim of abuse because he thinks they're going to torture and kill him in the fantasy segment without having any reason to think that way. While the Cunninghams were sent to "the state industrial school" where they "received the best secondary education to be had in the state," young Arthur was released to his father's custody.
