Spice has given you a great answer. I would just like to add to it one of my favorite stories from the Bible. In Acts, chapter 17, the apostle Paul is in the city of Athens. He observed that the city was full of idols. He started teaching about Jesus in the synagogue and in the market. The philosophers who overheard him started asking questions of him about his strange teachings. They took him to the Areopagus and asked that he tell them what he was teaching. And Paul did. His sermon there started with telling how he had observed that they were very religious, that he had seen their objects of worship and their altars, and he observed an altar with this inscription, "TO AN UNKNOWN GOD." He then said, "What you worship in ignorance, I now proclaim to you." Paul went on to tell about the one true God, Who made the heavens and the earth, the creator of all things. I invite you to read the whole story and am including a link to it: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=acts%2017:16-34&version=NASB
