can a person collect Social Security and disability at the same time

Disability is Social Security! SSDI = Social Security Disability Insurance. If you are old enough to collect Social Security then that is what you would do since you would get more than SSDI. If you apply for SSDI you will recieve less than you will get if you collect just Social Security.
