Should I feel guilty?

+5 votes

Hi. I'm 19 and have been dating someone for 3 years. My family loves him and we have talked about getting married a lot. But I'm afraid that my mom is gonna loose her mind. She suffers from depression from time to time.  I feel very protective of my mother and I feel like I'm the only one that can get her out of her sad moods and I don't want her to be miserable.  My family and I are very close and I get anxiety thinking about getting married and having to split Christmas and thanksgiving with his and my family. I love them but I also need to be happy and do what's right for me. Should I feel guilty for getting married? How do I handle this?

We are in charge of ourselves every second. We take care of ourselves first to help others. If we do nothing about negative feelings, we hit rock bottom and sometimes take others with us. Your parent needs to see a medical doctor for evaluation and possibly medication or counseling. If she refuses, she will want company with no regrets as to their own positive future. Snap out of it! Get on with your life and get her to see the means to an end when you do.
